Didn't Italy abolish the medicine entrance test?
For Italian-taught courses, yes. Since 2025/26 they use a filter semester: open enrolment, three national exams in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, then a ranking. English-taught Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary are excluded by the reform decree and keep IMAT. The 2026 sitting ran on 29 September with the usual format, and the named ranking follows in late October.
How big is the question bank?
12,340 questions, every one with a worked solution. 5,180 for IMAT across Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths, Logic and Reading, and 7,160 for CEnT-S across Maths, Texts and data, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Each question is tagged to the official syllabus and the banks are updated after every sitting.
What happened to TOLC-I and TOLC-E?
The Italian versions still exist, for degrees taught in Italian. The English versions were retired in November 2025 and replaced by CEnT-S, one 65-question CISIA test for engineering, economics, pharmacy and the sciences. If a guide still tells you to book English TOLC-I, it is out of date.
Is the whole platform really in English?
Yes. Every question, explanation, guide and mock is written in English, for exams that are sat in English. We do not translate Italian material. We write for English-taught programmes from the start.
Do I need to speak Italian?
Not to apply or to sit IMAT or CEnT-S. Most English-taught medicine programmes expect B2 Italian by the clinical years, because patients speak Italian. Engineering and economics programmes vary. We flag the requirement for each university.
IMAT or CEnT-S, which one do I need?
IMAT if you want Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary taught in English at a state university: one national test in late September, one ranking. CEnT-S if you want English-taught engineering, economics, pharmacy or sciences at a university in the CISIA network: a computer-based test you can sit up to five times a year. Private medical schools and a few universities such as Bocconi run their own tests, which we do not cover.
How does the ranking actually work?
After IMAT a national ranking lists every candidate by score, separately for EU and non-EU seats. You are assigned to the highest university on your preference list where your score fits. Seats that are not confirmed are reassigned in later rounds, the scorrimenti, which run for weeks.
When should I start preparing?
Strong IMAT candidates usually give it six to nine months. CEnT-S runs in five periods a year, one attempt per period, so you can start with an early sitting and repeat if the first score disappoints.
How much does AdmitItaly cost?
The IMAT question bank (5,180 questions) is €89, the CEnT-S bank (7,160 questions) €69, and both together, all 12,340, €129. One payment, VAT included, no subscription, with access until your exam day. Start with 60 free questions and full solutions, no card needed.
